So often we hear direct sales consultants talk about the dreaded “J” months of summer, also known as the Summer Slump. It’s no secret that sales have the potential to be slower in June and July. People focus on other things like graduation, summer break, and family vacations. Guess what? The potential may be there, but that doesn’t mean it has to become reality! With a little planning and a few proactive measures, your summer can be a lucrative addition to your annual sales plan. Here are a few tips to keep things running smoothly:
Summer Tip One
Summer is filled with opportunities to connect. Life moves at a slightly slower pace, and there is more time for getting together with people. Don’t let those company picnics and family reunions fall by the wayside. Every summer activity you have planned is an opportunity to connect with someone about your business. Share catalogs, wear your company apparel, or just talk up your business and hand out business cards when people ask what you’ve been up to.
Always keep your business in the forefront of your mind and don’t be afraid to share your passion with others! As long as you aren’t pushing and overbearing in your approach, the information you share will be well received.
Summer Tip Two
Consider offering incentives in the summer to generate bookings and sales. Embrace the relaxed, laid back, nature of the season and shake up your business a little bit. Offer a few discounts, or perhaps do a Christmas in July themed event where you offer a different special each day for a set number of days.
Themed parties are a big hit in the summer months as well. There are several ways to liven things up and keep the momentum moving in the heat!
Summer Tip Three
•Make the most of social media! If you don’t have a VIP customer group established on Facebook, this would be a good time to start one. Some will add only their very best customers. Others use it as a sort of lounge for any customer who wants access. It’s up to you to decide what parameters you want to set for entry. You can use this space to advertise special deals. Share ideas and information that would be useful to your customer base. It gives you a captive audience, and better reach than a standard business page in most cases.
Whatever avenue you choose, move forward with purpose. Your business will only slow down if you slow down. Start making calls and reaching out to people through social media. With 3-5 connections per day, keep your business rolling steady through the summer months and be well poised for success in the fall as well.
